Was talking to @Nj221102 about the now-working example examples/legacy/working/shoes3-tests/editline/editline.rb. He pointed out that while all the basic functionality was working with his PR, there were some differences around exactly where drawables are placed. Here's his screenshot:
Shoes has a certain amount of flexibility around this -- the Shoes Classic positioning, etc. was a little different between Mac, Linux and Windows for instance. But I think it's fair to say that our current version was more evolved than designed. I don't think we've done a great job of doing this consciously.
For completeness, here's what I currently see on my Mac for that example using Calzini and then Tiranti.
