create release 0.1 #16

Make a tarball of release 0.1, ready to be downloaded and installed, and
upload it to the Downloads section.

I don't know what I was thinking uploading that to our unreliable home server. 
It's
been moved to the downloads section of this site.

Release candidate 3 is in the downloads section. It's looking like this will 
become
the 0.1 release. It has been successfully installed on Mac OS 10.4, Ubuntu 
7.10, and
Windows XP with Cygwin.

A lot of changes have been made. The release will be the code that's in the 
0.1.*
branch, plus a few more changes coming soon.
