FAST BATTERY DRAIN #85

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I greatly appreciate your work and releases for hd mini.
I am facing a problem of fast battery drain in hd mini in your latest release
i.e r169.... My battery with no use drains in about 9hrs. Whereas andriod is
now charging my phone. But still battery consumption issue.

Original issue reported on code.google.com by pcgche...@gmail.com on 9 Sep 2011 at 2:53

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
1. measure your current in sleep with current widget, drain in sleep has been
fixed in latest release.
2. be sure not to have apps installed that could prevent the phone from sleep!
3. be sure not to have a "mixed up" android with other patches

please test your current in sleep with app "current widget". in our tests we
have very good results at about 3 - 10 mA

I just installed r169 and went to work. On return, i seen my phone battery 100%
to 44% in 6 hrs. With just a battery widget installed to monitored battery
position. r167 is much better for battery then this release. Please fix this
issue. Many Thanks

I had this problem with the r167 release, with the r169 battery drain is very
low for me.
maybe it is SDcard related?
I use a Sandisk 4Gb class 4 at the moment and batt drain is excellent!
with my Transcend 8Gb Class 10 and clean r169 my battery is empty after only 8
hours...

in my phone the release r134 is much better than the r169 release in terms of
battery but same when you boot the unit and let it suspend the light of the
button does not goes off. but the other mentioned fix are great but still not
video support and unable to capture videos from the camera.

@all:

1.in suspend mode should be 5-10 mA with a good sd card
2.a higher class sd card(class 10 for example)will use more power than a middle
class sd card(class 4 for example)
3.HTC Aria (the phone from where our devs ported kernel)use ~100mA with display
on(brightness set to 40%,no apps running) so don't expect to have values lower
than that. With the mentioned settings I get around 120-150mA,so yes it can be a
bit more tweaked(i think)but nothing HUGE...
4.for those who complain about r169 release that battery drains fast on it:if u
have running apps in background/foreground,brightness set to automatic, sync
enabled,etc...DON'T expect 100-120-150mA!:)
I hope this post will clear some things about battery drain.

ok, thx for answer, i think good idea will be make the list of microsd cards
with is dedicated to this android. I test is at 3 sdcards:
- 16GB aData 10class (works but need a lot of battery)
- 16GB SanDisc 4class (unfortunatly don`t work)
- 1 GB Transcend (i don`t knew with class) (works but need a lot of battery)

Today evening I try to look at another card.

From 7.30am until now 2.30pm ( 7 Hours )

I install the r169 the way i install the r134 same card same procedure and same
configuration and application but there some problem my battery with r169 does
not last even a one day with no call made, and when i check the back of the
phone i sense some heat, i think there is really problem about the r169
release. I repeat no application is running in the background if there is i
think there is still a problem with it because i use all same configuration
with r134 when i install the r169 but the result is the r169 drain the battery
more than the r134.

with respect it is just my experience installing the r169 i know you guys put a
lot of work hard for it and its great, this is just a way to give you guys a
feedback about your work and not to criticize.

for your information, battery is full when it reaches 4100 to 4200mV
3800mV, its not the two thirds of your capacity...

mobile is hot. So I think maybe this isssue is fixed in release 169. There is
yet some usssue with battery charge.

Hi guys,

I had the same problem with r169 + 3Gfix only about 8 hours of battery with
absolutely the same configuration as r134 (also in flight mode). But after 3
cycles of charging/decharging the battery now lasts about 2-3 days with 3G
turned on and normal usage.
I can give no account of it, but it works fine and i'm happy with it. Perhaps
some devs can explain.

It appears my phone is drawing approx 200mA while sleeping. I have everything
except the 'phone and 3G turned off with all running apps terminated prior to
running the test.
As comment 25 I have noticed it seems to be bad then improves over time...

Guys,
I had the same problem. Batery consumption never was less then 100mA. After ROM
update to new version from HTC site (using original HTC ROm Updater) I have
from 2 to 10 mA!!! With new ROM I have no time forwarding, no freezes and phone
is no more hot like My morning cofee ;)
Here is my post on XDA Forum:

it drains battery fast as well.

battery drain with rom (1.36) [latest updated]

while sleeping consumption is 9mA to 25mA

while using (without wifi, gps, no application) 190mA - 256mA

while using wifi/application 250mA - 360mA

<got these value from app name "current widget" in android market>

hey guys. I use the latest version of android on my htc photon but still have
huge problems with a fast battery drain. It runs only up to 8 hours
approximately. under settings I disabled background programs, Wireless is off.
The only thing I do sometimes is check on facebook (via fb app) or my emails. I
really love android and it's opportunities but it doesn't make sense to use it
if I have to charge it 3 times a day.

I experienced recently it saves a lot of battery life if you disable mobile
networks. Now I just activate this option if I need internet access and it runs
up to 24 hours.

I had from time to time a fast battery drain too. In these cases CurrentWidget
was telling me, that the current never went lower than 100mA (screen off). This
tells me, that there is a background process running and keeping the processor
from going to suspend mode (~15-20mA).

After some trying around, I found out, that having played videos (MX Player,
Mobo Player or Youtube) were causing this by leaving a zombie process
afterwards (caused by using the hardware video decoder).
Here is a fix to watch videos on the phone for MoboPlayer and MX Video Player
without screwing the system afterwards.
MoboPlayer: Start it - Open the menu ( ... ) - Setting - Enable Default Using
Soft-Decoder
MX Video Player: Start it - Click Windows button - Settings - Enable S/W Decoder

Unfortunately there is no such option for Youtube player. It always tries to
use the HW decoder first, which fails and creates a zombie process. On a second
or third try, the Youtube player uses the SW decoder too and thus shows a
video.

Hope that helps,
Sven

Hello all! I think i've found smth. useful for the battery problem - there is a
free app on the market, called NetQin Android Booster, which closes the
background apps that keep restarting. The better part is that now I only get 4
to 8 mA of current consumption in suspend mode vs 120 mA before...
Anyway, the phone isn't getting hot anymore, and has only used 1% of the
battery during the night.
Maybe someone else can try it and send some feedback - it worked for me.

Hello, I also had a lot of problem in theese days with battery drain, but
finally I solved it.
It was a WiFi related bug, that comes when you reboot your phone, and I found
it by using the Current Widget app. I removed all widgets and terminated a lot
of processes but batteery usage was about 380ma with display on and 180 with
display off, now I have 130ma with display on and only 9ma when off.
To solve this you have to do this every time you reboot your phone and you have
battery problems: go to enable your WiFi, probably you'll get an error, so
activate it again and then deactivate it.
With this I solved my battery problems... (try also a battery calibraton)
