If you do want to use commands as root, from the pi user you can simplify.

Instead of editing /etc/sudoers with visudo as you currently do you could either:

Create the file /etc/sudoers.d/pi
- ie. "echo 'pi ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL ' > /etc/sudoers.d/pi"
Add the user to the sudo group
- i.e. "adduser pi sudo"
