GitHub's syntax highlighting is based on the linguist gem. Seems a few vendored language extensions are also atom packages, which already exists for Schwalbe. Might be worth waiting a bit longer for that to support a bit more syntax (see #10), but then... Why not submit a PR to linguist adding support for Schwalbe? 😄
Unfortunately they seem to require quite a bit of usage before including new languages.
We try only to add new extensions once they have some usage on GitHub. In most cases we prefer that extensions be in use in hundreds of repositories before supporting them in Linguist.
I guess this'll stay a tracking issue until that happens (if ever) 🙄
