xar archives more data than what people really want sometimes.  There should be 
a "distribution" 
mode that only archives "safe" file attributes.  Suggested initial list of 
properties are:
data
uid
gid
name
type

This should be resolved with commit 160
The distribution mode only includes name, type, data, and mode.
