soname versioning #166

Would adding soname versioning to the libraries be considered? If so, can make a pull request with this.

I don't think we will change signatures of functions in the medium term. In this respect I would not like to introduce versioning of shared objects - with wrappers for REPL languages it would be just another hurdle.
