Review staging for UI customizations #744

Open jillpe opened 3 months ago

jillpe commented 3 months ago

Summary

We stripped out the customizations for Adventist to match Hyku as much as possible. This ticket is for the client to review the site to let us know what customizations she wants back.

OR, we can proactively put her customizations into a custom theme. In that case, the theme should match adventist production.

This could probably be done by making a custom theme

Folks, I see this is blocked, so I won't test?

By the way, your suggestion of a theme does sound very smart. It seems more like Knapsack--we could have all the fiddly customizations in a theme that doesn't block the ability of our application to also display Hyku main features and functionality.

@KatharineV this shouldn't be blocked anymore.

Several months ago, @Kirk helped us resize the UV in our instance so the viewer would feel less cramped. That customization appears to be missing in staging. See screenshots for how the UV extends further to the sides. I imagine that the code on prod will indicate what size the UV is post-customization. I don't remember the numbers we chose.

And this may be unrelated, but I see that staging is repeating the description field immediately under the UV. This is actually a good feature, so I don't want to undo it, but I'm curious if you can do anything to increase the white space between viewer and metadata. On prod we have more white space. Staging is putting that first line of metadata smack up against the UV and it looks like a glitch.

Lastly, the catalog search on prod is tighter and more readable, and I'm not sure if this is due to customization or the differences between version 5 and version 6, but if any of the prod view is customized, then I'd be grateful if you can bring that into staging. In the following screenshots, you'll see several things that are different. I've circled the problem areas in the staging screenshot. We'd prefer that those areas look like production, as well as bringing all the content in tighter together (see spacing of staging versus prod for what I mean). Circled areas include: Facet labels (should be bold) "Limit Your Search" in a box on production and less glaring text. Filtering by bar at the top of the catalog is overall more clean and looks more intentional with the colors, spacing, sizing on prod.
