By default I'm going to set up irc, because that's where I tend to idle. But I'd like people to reply here if they have some other strong preference, for example, HipChat.

I find persistent chatrooms useful for collaboration. They don't interrupt in the same way an IM does, yet also allow for IM-style conversations if people are around.
This can be useful, for example, if I'm working on the website with someone and we have some quick question. That type of interaction has worked well for me in the past.
Not everyone has the same communication style so I'll set this up, and if people use it, I'll be happy, but if people don't, I'll adapt to the preferred communication style.
