Same issue in 10.15.3 (19D76). On a laptop, the only way to bring up the sign-in page is to put the machine to sleep by closing the lid and reopening.
Seeing the same thing ever since I upgraded MacOS from Mojave (10.14) to Catalina (10.15.3). Moving the mouse while the screen saver is active does not bring up the login prompt as it should; when pressing any key the computer simply “beep”s at me. Issue did not exist in Mojave.
Putting MacOS to sleep (by closing the lid) and then re-awakening it brings me directly to the login, as the screen saver is no longer running.
I’ll be switching to XScreensaver until I hear this issue has been addressed. In case it helps, I found that when I move the mouse or press a key to log back in while XScreensaver is running, it does not stop the screen saver — the screen saver continues running while the login prompt appears as an overlay. IIRC, in Mojave mouse or keyboard activity would turn the screen saver off and show the login prompt over the desktop background.
I updated to Catalina when they announced Big Sur macOS 10.15.5 (19F101)
I too could not get the machine to ask for password when using a BT m&kybd when the lid was closed (I run in closed clamshell mode)
Only way to wake it was to open the lid and use TouchID -- even laptop trackpad & keybd didn't work
I don't know what version I had before, but I just downloaded and installed 3.0.2 and it's worked twice so far giving me the password box when in Closed Display Mode
It may be my imagination, but it seems like it works better when it's only been showing the screensaver for a few minutes
I went to the CP and my login is gone -- resetting it doesn't work, even tho' my login still works at electricsheep.com
I've loved this screensaver since it came out for the Mac, I hope it doesn't go away...
I can confirm this is still an issue on Catalina (10.15.7) and ES 3.0.2
Mac OS X: 10.15 (19A583) Electric Sheep: Version 3.0.2
When ES is set to be the screensaver and enables, attempts to wake from sleep via keyboard or mouse are met with only the alert tone system sound and no bounce back to the desktop. Quickly pressing the power button and releasing will bring you back to the desktop before the reboot/shutdown popup appears but, this is the only workaround to close out the full screen screensaver.
I'm sure there is something from console.log or System Monitor I can provide that is helpful but rather than throw up a million lines of everything and hoping for the best, happy to go back in and get anything you think would be helpful to add here, assuming a verbose error/signal actually gets thrown here.
