I feel that the programming community is often hostile to new ideas. Symptoms of this are things like showing off something new and people saying "Why don't you just use x, y, and z in this particular configuration?"; the Blub syndrome; and the general stagnation in the development of radically new ways of programming, despite programming being one of the most adaptable of all crafts to complete reinventions.
This is one of the frustrations that is making me consider other careers. It makes me happy to work in an environment where bold creativity isn't stifled by nay-sayers.
This is great! I think the Ruby community is pretty good at this, but as Admiral Hopper said - the most dangerous phrase in the language is "we've always done it this way"
