Used your code to unbrick my NVR, thank you! I suggest you promote the python3 version (which took me some time to find) to the main branch, as python2.7 is EOL and not available on most newer Linux versions.
I also noticed that the test, in python3, of root user, fail even if not running as root. However the program run fine.
