Bnes and .SMC(snes) files.

Bnes doesn't like .SMC files. not one bit. But after converting them to .SFC files, which Bsnes should be able to read, ICE won't load them into my steam.

what do?

.SFC isn't recongized by ICE, because it's actually a folder containing a few files

The folder thing makes sense. I have Ice set up to ignore folders IIRC. Although I just checked the windows machine I develop on, and I have a bunch of .sfc files that are just files, not folders. What are the contents of the .sfc folders?

Also, as for ConsoleGrid, I think its not getting images because of the (U) etc at the end of the filename. Not sure though. Try going to consolegrid.com and typing the name of the game into the search bar. See if you find anything.

Browsing Consolegrid.com gives me the main site, but when i start looking for games. for example street fighter II, this is all i get

Perhaps you should think about using another emulator for Snes roms, because .SCF is one of the least used snes rom formats out there huehue.

It's funny you say that, as I have been planning on moving away from bsnes. My problem is mainly that it seems really laggy on my machine, even though it is a powerful box. That is why I added the ability to specify which emulator you wanted to use, and I plan on adding Nestopia and ZSNES to handle the NES and SNES emulation.

As for ConsoleGrid, it looks like the game exists, but no pictures. Ice thought the game didnt exist, so I think the extra information in the filenames is getting to it.

Try this out:

• Rename your Donkey Kong Country ROM to just "Donkey Kong Country" (aka removing the '(U)' etc from the end). Run Ice again, and see if Donkey Kong Country correctly gets a picture.

The allround capabilities of Bsnes is pretty awsome, but it's focused on real emulation, instead of speed. I'm a big fan of Snes9x myself.

Yup, renaming Donkey kong fixed it. I guess it's a name problem after all. that's kind of anoying though. Perhaps you could look into keyword linking or something.. ( I know nothing about programming nor anything surrounding it, so if i mention something impossible, you can just say so)

Yeah, the search feature on ConsoleGrid is really 'meh'. Searching is a really hard problem actually. That being said, I think there is a bunch of stuff I can do to improve the search feature overall. That is definitely on my todo list.

In my experience both Ice and Bsnes seems to recognize just renaming the program.rom in the folder to gamename.sfc and removing the folder. But if you like having the folders for some reason, then I guess this isn't the best solution.

Hygan aka bsnes is actually a great emulator to support given that it is the most advanced Super Nintendo emulator out there. It doesn't use any hacks, etc. However, due to it not using any hacks, it is the most hardware demanding. So having multiple options, and choosing which emulators get downloaded would be huge in my opinion.

Also bsnes isn't just looking for .sfc file extensions. The roms also cannot have headers. Sadly a lot of roms do (especially due to the rom translation scene).

I will write up a tutorial on the easiest way to mass delete your headers, and convert your sfc to smc files soon.

Yeah, it seems like it would be great to have a setup UI where you can choose the emulators you download, with multiple options for each. Also would be good to have an update option to get new version of emulators. Something to think about for a long term goal.

I just released the newest Ice, which requires users to enter their own emulators. As such, all emulator specific issues are being closed.
