Instance - Dire Maul - Dusty Tome #454

Open Bilbo79 opened 9 years ago

Name: Ocholoco Account Name: Bilbo79 Map & Area: DM:E, DM:W, and DM:N How to replicate the bug: Go to any of the proper spawn locations looking for a tome What happens:

a) The Dusty Tome is only in one place. Not in the 6-8 others that it should possibly spawn. I know, as I have been by these locations dozens and dozens of times. It is only in 1 place. And you know where that is.

What should happen:

a) The Dusty Tome should be a random spawn, in proper locations. Right now, it is in a bad location, because it can be farmed without killing a single mob. This is bad.

Located on WoWHead Map (if applicable): Dire Maul, all wings Source (proof, if applicable): Personal Experience

Extra Information:

The chance for the books is so ridiculously low right now, it isn't even worth farming the tome without having to fight a single mob.

Let's see what I can do here ...

Tobschinski commented 9 years ago

Hard to tell how many locations should exist. I have 8 so far, thought there would be 10, but I cannot get any more. Don't know ...

Also Blizzard moved these books a lot during vanilla.

e.g. The book you mentioned located in the library is of an old template, these were removed with 1.10. But I do not know if the newer one was also moved.

I remember farming the one in the Library on retail during late vanilla on my hunter along with the librams which dropped from any mobs. This was a popular farming spot since it tied in with doing the repeatable quest for the goblin to get rep for steamwheedle. Since I never bothered farming in any other area I cannot say about the droprate etc in those areas, but a lot of people used rogues or druids to farm these because using stealth enabled them to bypass mobs thus enabling them to farm these books without engaging mobs. I have used my rogue to farm these on Ascension for guildies and whereas certain books droprates are higher than others, it has been noticed that somehow the droprate for the rogue book has decreased to the point of it doesn't drop and also the shaman and paladin have so far never been seen. The rng alone should have allowed for these to drop at some point whether from the library or other areas and since a lot of people have done these runs i.e. tribute etc, they should have been seen at some point.

If you are interested in some numbers ...

untitled

Not worth at all to 'farm' them right now.

Tobschinski commented 9 years ago

Oh by the way, as you have farmed them. Do you remember if a Dusty Tome can contain MORE than 1 book, like Warlock + Mage?

Skylark14 commented 9 years ago

It can but very rarely. Usually it would contain two of the most common ones usually mage and hunter. I'm assuming the highlighted id is for the rogue book, however I believe the warrior book to also be the same droprate yet that has been seen on a few occasions since the rogue droprate reduced somehow, this obviously isn't right.

Tobschinski commented 9 years ago

I mean on retail. I will give them equal chances here, but I need to know if more than one book can 'drop' per tome.

Skylark14 commented 9 years ago

as far as I remember it was that way on retail but as I did it on a hunter I didn't do so many runs since I would have to have cleared some mobs since I had no stealth therefore the amount of runs I did was a lot less than a stealth class so I couldn't judge by the % of drops but as I said the occurence of two books dropping was very rarely, this also seems true on Ascension.

Wow, great work on this so far.

I didn't farm DM tomes in Vanilla retail. So, I cannot attest to the book always being up. I did however farm DM a hundred plus times in BC, for Quel'Serar. And I am positive that the book was never up 100% of the time in any one location (like the Library in Ascension). You had to take a route and visit the various spawns. It spawned in 1 random place.

And 10 locations sounds high. Off the top of my head, I can only think of 6-7 places I have seen it on the ground. 6 for sure from memory. I am old.

As for the book drop rate, I think it is right on. I hit the one in Library maybe 20 times and found 3 books. Have not looted it in some time though.

Keep up the good work!
