I left a message for Kate, but have not talked to her about this yet. If any of you programmers want to give some thought to how to integrate these tags, that would be great.
Just got a phone call from Kate, and what they are doing with the hash tags is trying to get the NGOs to use them as a way of passing information about needs and haves from the people on the ground to the world. So, if we had a way of parsing tweets and using them to propagate the WHWN site, that would be very useful.
This makes a lot of sense. Could solve early traction issues by auto-populating the site with fresh and numerous needs. Anybody have experience pulling hash tags out of twitter? (You'd also need to auto fill in the other fields on our site with twitter user name, and some intelligent defaults.)
this is being addressed by integrating their hash tags into the taxonomy. I'm going to open another issue for the lower priority of including some kind of auto population from tweets.
Kate Starbird, @catharine.starbird@colorado.edu, #2063132766 Can we talk to you guys about including our Twitter data in your "We Have, We Need" apps with our #offering #need and #loc tags? (Tweak the Tweet - Kate) http://crisiscommons.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page#CrisisCamp_Contacts
