allow to pass custom options to write buffer #347

@lpawluczuk this is the basic idea. I added only the first commit with it. It still misses some things:

  1. some metadata refactoring similar to what you did in your PR.
  2. fixing tests

can you continue with those? Please do different commits for each separated task. Small commits facilitate review.
