Scrapy-splash: User timeout caused connection failure or 504 Gateway timeout

After my Scrapy spider crawls the web for a while, I would get one of the following errors:

• User timeout caused connection failure: Getting http://localhost:8050/execute took longer than 180.0 seconds..
• Retrying <GET https://example.com via http://localhost:8050/execute> (failed 1 times): 504 Gateway Time-out

Or the server would die with this error:

• The X11 connection broke (error 1). Did the X11 server die?

After I restart the server, the spider will work again for a while before a similar error pops up again. I've tried increasing the timeout limit but that didn't help.
