[POLL] What do you think of using Android bookmarks/history database instead of Zirco own database ? #27

Hi people reading this,

For some times now, i've been thinking of making Zirco use the Android stock
bookmarks/history database, instead of its own database.

Main benefits would be:
* No need to maintain a database, code simplification;
* Bookmarks/history could be shared across browsers;
* Widgets displaying bookmarks would be able to display bookmarks from Zirco as
well;

Drawbacks:
Almost none, except for the transition: should Zirco bookmarks imported to
Android database? or simply drop them, forcing users to recreate their
bookmarks?

Feel free to give your opinion in comments (you can say "i don't care" :))

Tl;dr: do use the built in bookmarks. Don't bother with an import feature.

i'm new to android. i've been using an n95 and found the best browser all round
to be wb4s60 (the built in webkit kludge)
opera mobile was too heavy for the browser. most of the alternative browsers
felt clunky.
opera mobile I actually used the most (to save monthly bandwidth)

...

on android I seem to have settled on dolphin hd. I tried firefox but it just
felt alien on a mobile phone.

Zirco is a very compelling offer.

I"ve wondered why other browsers can't use the built in android browser's
bookmarks. dolphin imported them and that was cool. but it is a very one-way
thing :(

as a user I would like to enjoy the benefits that you have outlined from
switching to the built-in bookmarks. using a centralised bookmark store for it
would feel very liberating.

but as a hacker (no java yet) I see more potential.
please do hook into the native bookmarks. your lighter code base might allow
you to focus more on maintaining the things that really excite you (and in
doing so might excite me too)

I don't want to have the be-all and end-all opinion, or dictate your own
project... so no hard feelings if others (or you) feel differently to me.

thanks anyway for reading, sorry for the long comment, keep up the good work!

I prefer having the same inbuilt database instead of having a different one.

Thanks for your answers. So i've made my mind, Zirco will use the stock
bookmarks database in next version. it's already in the trunk.
