Getting started with Thread Writer for Bluesky #19

Open scripting opened 1 year ago

scripting commented 1 year ago

Here are the docs.

http://this.how/threadWriterForBluesky/

If you have any questions, or need to report a problem, add it to this thread.

There's a link to this thread at the end of the docs.

Reporting problems

If there are problems, remember to say what you did, what you expected to happen and what actually happened. Be clear in the steps, if we can't reproduce the problem we can't help you. Look in the javascript console for errors. Screen shots can help.

I want to fix the problems. But first we have to figure out what the problem is. ;-)

I launched the app. I verified who I was and signed into BlueSky I wrote a bit about watching Season 2 of THE BEAR. Enough text that it would create 2 posts.
I hit PUBLISH THIS POST. It seemed to do things in the background (as you would expect) However...nothing posted to my BlueSky account.

I suspect I may have the wrong log-in information, but am unable to confirm. I'm attaching a screenshot, but I am not certain that's helpful. Screen Shot 2023-07-05 at 17 42 38

Hi @nakedjen -- thanks for checking out Thread Writer.

The first place to look for problems is in the first panel of the Settings dialog. I assume you did set that up? If not, read the instructions in the HowTo doc, and try again.

This is what mine looks like --

BTW the last episode of The Bear was something else. I wanted to tell him to go for the girl not the restaurant. What a catch.

And the husband of Sugar not telling the mom it was okay if she left. Of course it was okay. It was the most loving thing she could do. She knows herself and loves her kids.

@nakedjen -- i just added some error checking, so if the post didn't go through you'll get an error dialog.

i'm 99% sure that was the problem. but if not, let's figure it out and thanks for sticking with it!

Did you see my message on the previous thread about including ability to post images? If it's not on your agenda, that's fine - just so I know - when we do our Twitter threads (usually about 10-12 messages) most will include some kind of graph / image eg https://twitter.com/Omnisis/status/1674783632966418433 so ideally we'd be able to replicate this within the Thread Writer.

@WeThinkOmnisis -- sorry -- no plan to include images at this time. first we have to get some users for this version of the app.

No problem - thanks for the quick reply!

+1 for including images/gifs at some point (which then would also need alt text support, I suppose)! Thanks for supporting good social media infrastructure :)

I would like to include URLs in a thread.

I'm getting this when I get to the end of typing something like https://google.com/ (and the parsing stops).

Console error:

ReferenceError: Can't find variable: twGetUrlLength [Error] ReferenceError: Can't find variable: twGetUrlLength wordLength (code.js:104) doSplit (code.js:163) splitIntoTweetArray (code.js:188) recalcTweetArray (code.js:210) everySecond (code.js:508)

Hi! First off - I am loving this thread writer! Thank you for making something to benefit Bluesky users.

I know that, right now, the editor will treat any line break as wanting to force a new post, but I'm just curious if there would be a way to enter a certain set of characters that could make it temporarily ignore that rule?

I'm finding that a post can sometimes be more visually accessible if sentences can be broken into different lines within the same post, and would love if there could somehow be a feature in future updates!

scripting commented 11 months ago

@rosmah -- that's an interesting idea..

Hi Thank you so much for this product- I used your twitter version- but I cannot get it to work. Please help! The first post appears but then no more are posted

I am loving this Thread Writer! Thank you so much for sharing this. It just works! I don't think there's any app yet that allows thread writing in bluesky except for yours.

I stumbled upon your repo because wanted to ask about allowing multi-lines in a single post? I second @rossmah's comment! I think that will be a good feature to add in the future.

Once again, thank you so much!

I'm looking into how to design the "soft return" feature, and asked ChatGPT for prior art.
