Randomly deleted notes #349

I use Notational Velocity to manage around 900 notes synced with Simplenote and stored as plain text files in a "notes" folder.

I just noticed today that some notes were missing. I investigated and found out that Notational Velocity randomly deleted 20+ notes (one or two at a time) since the 14th of June. Those notes are missing from both my "notes" folder and the Notational Velocity UI, but are still available as usual via the Simplenote website and iOS app.

How can I prevent it from happening again?

I've had this issue for months as well. I eventually abandoned the app for NValt and then Evernote but would LOVE to return to using it.

At the time I assumed the issue had something to do with syncing with Simplenote.

Me as well. I don't see a pattern for the deletions. The files remain accessible in Simplenote's web interface, though, and if I'm fast enough, I can pick out the deleted text from Dropbox's recent events for restoration

I recently tried to use Notational Velocity again, synced with the same Simplenote account but starting from a fresh install (no previous NV settings or database) and it never downloaded some of my notes. Again, no apparent pattern between those missing notes.

I don't know how to find them all nor how to "restore" them (except for copy/pasting them into a new note).

Hi, I have been using notational velocity from over 5years, I synced my notes with simplenotes app and there are number of notes now missing. Most of them were older notes and its a huge loss to me. Any workaround how can I get them?

chetsir commented 7 years ago

@dilawer I unfortunately never found a workaround. Been on Evernote for a year or two and am actually loving it.

@dilawer if you sync with Simplenote, I believe you can log into simplenote.com and recover the missing notes from the trash. For the future, try using https://github.com/Automattic/simplenote-electron
