I am learning more about the bible as I work on this project, and for that I am grateful. the KJV does indeed not have 15 verses for 3 John. However some translations do, such as the ESV.
Wikipedia states " 3 John has 15 verses in the critical SBL Greek New Testament text,[4] or 14 in the Textus Receptus.[5]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Epistle_of_John.
blueletterbible states "Summary - Question 8 Why Is the Bible Divided into Chapters and Verses?
In the original text of the various books of the Bible, there are no such things as chapter and verse divisions. They were added later for the sake of convenience. While they are helpful, they are not authoritative in any sense of the term. In fact, they can cause a number of problems.
Chapter and verse divisions give the impression that the Scripture should be read and studied in bits and pieces. This is not what the original authors intended. The entire context must always be considered. Consequently, the chapter and verse divisions should be ignored when one attempts to properly interpret the entire message of Scripture." https://www.blueletterbible.org/Comm/stewart_don/faq/bible-special/question8-why-is-the-bible-divided-into-chapters-and-verses.cfm.
Thank you for letting me share what I have learned today. The github issue is still correct in that the KJV is split into chapters and verses, and has no verse 15 in 3 John. However I should be careful not to assume this about all translations.
I have opened https://github.com/scrollmapper/bible_databases/pull/60 as a way of discovering these errors sooner. I will have a separate PR to fix these inconsistencies soon.
It appears that https://github.com/scrollmapper/bible_databases/pull/63 fixes this.
3 John 1:15 []
There should not be a "3 John 1:15", chapter (and book coincadentally), end after 1:14.
