Geolocation & Analytics tool #58

DESCRIPTION

Geoloc is a tool that displays the location of a chain's nodes on a map, along with some data. Its aim is to provide an overview of a chain's global architecture and metrics, with different levels of precision and granularity.

VALUE

It is difficult to get a clear idea of how a blockchain effectively works, as while we can easily find out how many nodes are present and get some metrics, by default we cannot know where they are and the potential issues related to their geographical distribution. The tool provide a mean to acquire this information in a visual form, which is especially useful to get an idea of the actual decentralization: spotting abnormal concentrations of nodes and identifying the risks for the chain for example -- if many nodes are concentrated in the same datacenter, then an outage there might cause a chain halt. Such knowledge would allow the chain's core team to coordinate with the validators and ensure that the nodes are properly scattered across the world. Other metrics that will be gradually added include for example an assessment of the network performance relative to other nodes, and more.

This is still very much a work in progress but we are actively developing it (both in terms of UI/UX and of functionalities). A prototype is visible here : https://tools.highstakes.ch/geoloc/

ROADMAP & COST

A working version would be brought online within a month. Other features are being developed and will be integrated in the course of the coming 4 months ; some custom elements and metrics could also be implemented upon request of the team. The tool is eventually expected to become a complete analytics suite.

We are requiring funding in the amount of $50'000 in the form of SCRT tokens to add Secret Network to the list of monitored chains., to be provided either in one or multiple installments.

This amount will cover both the initial deployment and help cover the ongoing development and operating costs -- hosting of the tool, as well as of an archive node that will serve as a basis for gathering the other metrics we have in mind.

Going forward, we will stake these funds and use their rewards to finance the ongoing operating costs on the long term, as well as the development of further features.

We would be happy to schedule a meeting with the team in order to discuss this project in more details.
