What SDDM Theme are you using? Breeze? Something else? Does it happen if you use your laptop's internal keyboard?
I'm having the same error. Theme should be Breeze.
What version of SDDM and Plasma? Can you attach a screenshot or a video? That would be very helpful.
sddm 0.19.0 plasma 5.18.5
I have to see if I can make a video.
It for example does not happen if I first start my PC and wait with enabling my monitors until the login screen is loaded or when the screen saver was active in between.
Sorry for the late response I'm using breeze with plasma 5.19.5 & sddm 0.18.1 - it does also happen on my laptop keyboard.
I'll see if I can get a video today
Maybe it was fixed in 0.19
. I didn't get it today, but I will create a video when it occurs again!
I'm having the same issue.

I'm not sure if this is a bug with SDDM or some KDE/Unix drivers but when I have an external keyboard & mouse plugged into my laptop, when I type a character into my password box it highlights it so it is automatically deleted when I type the next character unless I click it or press the right arrow key.
