JulienSTC commented 5 months ago

New indicator:

FR: Indicateur: Proportion du plastique qui se retrouve de façon permanente dans l’environnement

Calculation: Proportion of discarded plastic leaked permanently into the environment = (Plastic leaked permanently into the environment / Total disposed plastic waste and scrap) * 100

Disaggregate by geo and product categories

Changes needed:

Following the review by SMEs an error was spotted as they mistakenly provided the wrong denominator, see message below for change:

We had a look over the website page and just want to suggest one thing that needs to be fixed arising from an error on my part when responding to your initial inquiry. The variable that should be in the denominator is “Total Discarded Plastic in Products”. Looking at the released tables (Physical flow account for plastic material, by resin (statcan.gc.ca)) this is the fifth variable in the variable drop down list.

Therefore ratio should be: *Proportion of discarded plastic leaked permanently into the environment = (Plastic leaked permanently into the environment / Total Discarded Plastic in Products) 100.**

Again, apologies for the name error. In the previous communication we noted that: “For the denominator, we suggest using “total discarded plastic waste”, as this variable includes all the discarded plastic in the life- cycle before it is further disaggregated into plastic arriving in landfills or plastic that is recycled,”

The description here actually applies to “Total Discarded Plastic in Products” and not “total discarded plastic waste” which we accidentally put in the first email.

The calculated plastic leakage for vehicles in NL, NU, NT, and YT is very high (constant around 20%). Does this make sense?

JL to contact SME for review.
