Fix pronto hooks swallowing generic errors

Found this issue when we were running overcommit on the context of Gemfile that didn't contain pronto on it. Ops!

There's a failing test on windows but I don't think it's related to my changed - perhaps it's a flaky one?

Agreed—failure looks spurious.
