The crash happens when the # of cM windows is one less than the # of bp windows and the # of counts. I believe this occurs whenever your genetic map does not have an initial entry with cM = 0.00 and bp = 0.

I have never run into this issue in real data.

I have never run into this issue when using a uniform map like
