Perhaps you could add this function to the other ggplot2 helpers in the GGally package.

Cool! I've added a link to your repo and two example plots.

Also, I have looked for a way to plot the same kind of results from Google Trends, but there is no API and it seems that several people are waiting for a way to get these data.
