Which device (manufacturer, type)?
Samsung Fascinate (Galaxy series) (SCH-i500)
Which firmware is installed?
2.3.5 (Kernel 2.6.35.7-g774ac1d - (Vanilla Gingerbread - JT rekease)
What version of wireless tether are you using?
3_1 Beta2
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Configure Tether as Open Wifi (no encryption)
2.Start Wifi

1. Configure Tether as encrypted (with no access control)
2. Start tether

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
1. Expected Open Wifi. Seen: Open Wifi, but cannot assign ip-address.
2. Expected encrypted Wifi, Seen: non-encrypted ad-hoc wifi

Please provide any additional information below.

When Wifi first starts as OPEN wifi tether/hotspot, it also starts the built-in
wifi-hotstop application, so I can see 2 wifi icons in taskbar. But with OPEN
wifi, I can try connecting, but IP-Address is not assigned.

When Wifi Starts as ENCRYPTED tether/hotstop, it DOES NOT start the built-in
wifi hotstop application. But when I scan for Wifi, it shows up as ad-hoc wifi
hotspot, which cannot be used as my tablet (samsung galaxy tab 10.1) will not
connect to ad-hoc network.

I'm having the same issue. However in addition, after several minutes of
waiting for my devices to link with the connection the app actually causes the
phone to shutdown and reboot.
