I am having the same issue. It looks like Issues #1100:

and #1106:

are the same as this one. Hopefully people are working on it right now!

Installing the TBH (Team Black Hat) tethering patch will fix this issue.
However, this should not be viewed as a permanent solution as it is not
"fixing" WiFi Tether, it is simply changing the way the phone logs onto the 3G
network. Not sure if WiFi Tether can do this or not. From what I have read the
portion of NVRAM this patch modifies is loaded into protected memory as Android
boots.
Note: The TBH patch is only available for the Droid X and Droid 2.
