Tethering Starts but Limited Connectivity #349

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Which device (manufacturer, type)?

Moto Droid

Which firmware is installed?

2.1 rooted

What version of wireless tether are you using?

2.0-pre3 (Eclair)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open the app and start it
2. Connect to AndroidTether on laptop

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I connect but it gives me the yellow exclamation point on top of the
wireless bars in the task bar. I've always known this to mean "Limited
Connectivity," although it doesn't say that.

On the droid I see 7.5kb Down and 97.6kb Up, so I know its working. On
trying to get to a website - Chrome resolves the host and then stops at
"Connecting..."

Found the newest intel wireless drivers but no help. I'm on Windows 7 Home
64 bit.

Have you installed a netfilter-enabled kernel or a custom rom? If yes, which
one?

Yep, I installed the Chevy kernel with help from this thread:

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-hacks/14389-wireless-tether-patcher-one-c
lick-
solution-2-x.html

I just tried to connect an ipod touch to it - it connects and the website
progress
bar starts, but doesn't go anywhere.

I also took a look at the log - everything succeeded except for "Enabling NAT
rules..."

If "Enabling NAT rules ..." failes - you don't have a kernel installed which
supports
netfilter.

The easiest way to install such a kernel is to flash a custom rom:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/custom-roms/

There are tons of roms which all come with different enhancements.

I would recommend koush's port of the famous cyanogenmod.

I have a similar problem with it giving me limited connectivity.
Droid X rooted
v. 2.1
affecting tether v. 2_0_5pre8, 2_0_2
I'm currently useing 2_0_5pre3

When I first install the app, tethering works great, and then after about 20
minutes or so it kinda craps out and times out on web pages then shortly gives
me limited connectivity. so far so good with 2_0_5pre3 though...

I'm having the same problem as well, I have tried several of the releases and
none are working. Each time it installs correctly, and seems to be working ok.
The network even shows up in the wifi connections but never actually connects.
My laptop gets the yellow triangle and my ipad connects but never gets internet
access. Also wifi tether never shows any connected devices in the access
control screen. I'm running an htc evo 4g with fresh 4.3.3(stock kernel) on it.
I was using it successfully for a while and had to unroot to take my phone in
for service, when I re-rooted using revolutionary is when the problem started.
Sorry this is such a long post but I know the more info given the better able a
dev is to fix the problem. Thanks for all the hard work.
