This issue is still present on CM6 release for the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide. I
am updating this post to give more detailed information in hopes of a fix.
To reproduce this problem, start the application, chose any settings, then
click on the Wifi symbol to start. If running the program for the first time
the SuperUser dialog does present itself, "Allow," then it says it's starting.
After a few seconds the phone freezes, pauses 5 seconds, then reboots.
As a long-time Linux user and developer I understand the need for more detailed
information and logs so I have attached a /proc/last_kmsg to this comment in
hopes of debugging. The reboot it caused by a kernel panic in the Wifi driver.
Nothing else on CM6 causes this reboot with Wifi, so it is likely something
that the Wireless Tether is doing. The most interesting portion of this log is:
[ 1092.617919] Starting to process NVS...
[ 1092.618286] No Nvs, Setting default MAC address
[ 1092.618499] pHwInit->uEEPROMCurLen: 1c
>>> [ 1092.618682] ERROR: If you are not calibating the device, you will soon
get errors !!! <<<
[ 1092.619384] Chip ID is 0x4030111.
[ 1092.620300] FEM Type 1
[ 1092.621002] Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual
address 00000000
The kernel is in fact correct: we did soon get errors. ;) 1ms later the kernel
oopses.
While this may ultimately be a bug in the Wifi driver (since there's a NULL
dereference), it would be nice to have this bug fixed in the next pre-release
version of Wireless Tether. Can someone please comment on this? Thanks!
