My problem is the same, except that I'm tethering a MacBook Pro to my HTC Evo
4g on a 3g network. I haven't done a speed test, but it's remarkably slow, so
slow as to be barely functional. If I try to load two tabs at once, they both
fail.
Thanks in advance.

I went ahead and tested this on 3G. It looks like I'm losing about 1/8th of my
available bandwidth. My 4G is running at 4 Mbps and tethering at 0.5 Mbps and
my 3G is running at 0.4 Mbps and tethering at about 0.05 Mbps.
I'm wondering if there is any settings I can modify that will improve things,
or if this is just normal. I had a similar drop when tethering my Palm Pre via
wifi.
Either way, I wanted to thank the developers for their hard work on this app.

I'm having the same issue. Wifi tethered 4G gets perfect upload speeds (1
Mbps), but download is capped around 150 Kbps. On the phone, download is around
6 Mbps via the speedtest app. I also get full speed downloads via USB
tethering. I'm running CM7 (tried 7.0.3.1 and 7.1.0 RC1). Wifi tethering used
to be close to full 4G speed when I last used it about 7-8 months ago (usually
use USB tethering).

This may help pinpoint what's going on:

According to this thread, installing filterproxy and setting the tethered PC to
use the phone as a proxy enables 4G speeds. There are a lot of people saying
this worked for them, and indeed, it worked for me as well.
Hopefully this will help identify how to fix the underlying issue (or at least
work around it).
