Which device (manufacturer, type)? T-Mobile G2 (HTC Vision)

Which firmware is installed? Cyanogen Mod 7 RC2

What version of wireless tether are you using? Tried all of them on this site.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Running the app.
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected output is for it to work. Instead, I see just about everything have a
"fail" status.

Please provide any additional information below.
Tried every version of the tethering app available on the site. Some versions
says wifi interface failed to start, encryption fails, just about everything
fails to run.

I seem too have the same problem as you, Vision with Cyanogen Mod 7 RC2.

With the market app. I start the app, press to start and then hang at "Start
Tethering Please wait while starting..." If I do "back" and press start again
it start but I have the following in the logs :

Activating Wifi interface : Failed
Setting ad-hoc mode : Failed
Setting essid : Failed
Setting channel : Failed
Enebeling NAT rules : Done
Enebeling IP forwarding : Done
Tethering now running : Done

Thanks

That's usually what I get for the logs, too.

I have no idea what I did, but it works now. I downloaded version 2.0.7 of this
program and it worked. Can't recall if I had rebooted my phone since then, but
it does work now. Must be one of those 50/50 things with the G2.

I have same issue as OP. Installing each version of wifi-tether from 2.0.2 to
3.0-pre12 produced the same error message. Running CyanMod 7.0.0 RC4 with
26.06.02.27 radio.

I am having the same issues with my G2. I did have to jump through hoops
because it appears that T-Mobile may somehow be blocking my device from the
market. When I go into the market via my laptop it says that my device does
not support the application. I know that this app works in CM7 nightlies on my
old hero. running CM7 stable, and version 2.0.6 of wireless tether for root
user.

Ok, will look into it. Support will be added (hopefully) to the new "version
3"-branch. Stay tuned.

BTW. Version 2.0.8-pre1 available here:
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_2_0_8-pre1.apk

Should work ...

Activating Wifi interface : Failed
Enebeling NAT rules : Done
Enebeling IP forwarding : Done
Tethering now running : Done

oh, and i didnt add encryption or anythign to the access point, ust installed
and tried to fire it up. not sure if adding WEP or WPA2 will change the
failures. i wil check on that.

Evo rooted with CM7 Stable. Version 2.0.7 hangs on starting tethering. I hit
the back button and tried again, then it started with the below errors. Note
that Wimax connection is on and with full bars.

Activating WiFi interface...failed
Setting ad-hoc mode...failed
Setting essid...failed
Setting channel...failed
Activating encryption (iwconfig)...failed
Enabling NAT rules...done
Enabling IP forwarding...done
Enabling access control...done
Tethering now running...done

Uninstalled 2.0.7 and installed 2.0.8-pre1, which worked great via 3g, with
Encryption and Access Control. Going to test with wimax later and will report
back.

@admanb... I would try the latest beta/experimental version available here:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v
3_0-pre14.apk

Has some nice new features ...

Ah, this remembers me ... need to look what causes troubles with the htc vision
on cm7.
