This is a utility allowing admins of Dynamics CRM Online & onPrem to edit organization database settings (aka: OrgDBOrgSettings). This allows you to edit your settings without using the command line utility in the KB article documenting "OrgDBOrgSettings." The utility is written using the CRM SDK as a reference and currently all changes and retrieval of settings are done via the CRM's OData Endpoint and is installed via a managed solution containing several webresources and can easily be installed and uninstalled from your CRM environment.

Would it be possible to add AUTOEXTENDATTRIBUTEMAXLENGTHLIMIT to the settings? #83

Hi, Would it be possible to add AUTOEXTENDATTRIBUTEMAXLENGTHLIMIT to the tool?

Currently, it is possible for a field length to be increased by importing a record with more characters in a field imported than is defined in the schema.

This setting prevents the field length from being increased as a result of an import.

I certainly could look into that - is it just an attribute on the organization entity? Or can you give me an example of how you've changed this in an existing Online environment?

Looking into this a bit and I'm pretty sure this is a deployment setting. This solution only updates Organization.OrgDbOrgSettings and various other Organization entity settings that you can otherwise modify using the api.

Hi Sean,

Microsoft Support added/documented the setting as a result of an issue caused by that for my company.

These are the instructions they gave me:

We have added feature for Data import pipeline so that you can configure this setting based on their needs. Today If Data import workflow find field in excel has larger length value than database than it will extend width in CRM so that import can succeed. Please note that disabling this field will fail the import and customer will have to ensure max length requirement is satisfied in excel and upload again.

This setting is selfserve, below article updates one such setting. you can follow step and update AUTOEXTENDATTRIBUTEMAXLENGTHLIMIT to false.

I don't see a reference to autoextendattributemaxlengthlimit in that article - if you could point me to some documentation on it I can see if there's a way to incorporate it but so far it appears as if it's a deployment setting (which isn't something you can typically update yourself for the online environment). The references I can find internally are all pointing to this being a lower level setting than you could self service (Unless there is an updated name or setting taht I'm missing).

I believe they used the reference to your tool that is used for that article, can also be used to update the newly documented setting autoextendattributemaxlengthlimit.

They said it should show up in the list of settings.

Maybe the article is different from the URL Provided? This is what I'm seeing in the article - is this the article? I don't see any reference to importing data and auto extending columns - is this the article you're referring to? Again, if you have another setting name or reference I'd be happy to help track it down - as of today AUTOEXTENDATTRIBUTEMAXLENGTHLIMIT doesn't exist as a setting that we can edit/change.

They said this same tool can also be used to update the setting they just recently set up and documented named AUTOEXTENDATTRIBUTEMAXLENGTHLIMIT.
