The instance ID can be determined as follows:

check if the instance is running on a cloud platform - this can be done using the libdetect library
if not, then i check if there is an iso mounted which contains the instance id

The case in which libdetect detects the a cloud platform will be left for another issue.

This is addressed by #6 which focuses on the local libvirt case; some support for the cloud scenario has been added using the libdetect library but this has not been tested as yet - need a new issue for that.
