commenting a selected block of text #169

A very useful text editing feature is the ability to insert a comment character 
at the start of each line of a block of selected text.

For instance, say I want to comment a paragraph or a tabular environment 
running a dozen lines.  I would like to select all lines, and either click a 
button, or better, use a keyboard shortcut.

This feature is available in WinEdt (forgotten shortcut) and in TeXShop (for 
Mac) via shift-apple-[.
