Hello FreakerBB,
Unfortunately, some systems and often laptops do not have adequate cooling systems & can get very hot when running graphics-intensive programs like Second Life. Make sure that the air can get to the cooling vents on your system. For example, placing the computer on a cloth surface, such as your lap, a bed, or a couch cushion, can restrict or completely block the airflow. Prolonged air restriction causes overheating and potential damage.
If your system is clogged up with dust or one of the cooling fans has failed, then it will certainly overheat very quickly when logged into Second Life. Find the vents on your computer or laptop. They are usually underneath or on the back and sides of the computer. Use canned air to remove the dust from the vents to improve airflow. You may wish to take your computer into a repair shop to have it cleaned out, get the fans checked & have new thermal paste put on the CPU. If a fan is making a loud growling noise or not moving, there is an issue with a fan. You can use free programs like GPU-Z (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/) to measure the temperature of your graphics card & the fan speed. Please note we do not endorse any one application and you are responsible for installing any software on your computer.
Optionally: You may find that whitelisting Second Life in your antivirus program helps this problem. You should whitelist the following folders:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife - the viewer settings folder. If you can't see the AppData folder, please following the instructions here to make it visible: https://www.ionos.co.uk/digitalguide/server/configuration/show-windows-appdata-folder/
If you need further help troubleshooting the overheating problem then you need to contact Linden Lab support directly by submitting a support case form here: https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/
Thanks!
