[BUG-234371] Unable to launch Second Life Viewer in VMWARE #11311

What just happened?

Steps:

  1. Install VMWARE
  2. Install Second Life viewer
  3. Launch Second Life viewer

What were you doing when it happened?

Error message: Second Life is unable to run because your video card drivers did not install properly, are out of date, or are for unsupported hardware. Please make sure you have the latest video card drivers and even if you do have the latest, try reinstalling them.

If you continue to receive this message, contact the Second Life Support Portal.

What were you expecting to happen instead?

Second Life viewer to launch

Hi Dima,

That's interesting. https://secondlife.com/system-requirements says Second Life requires OpenGL 3.2. Does VMWARE have support for that?

Yes, it supports OpenGL 4.1.

I want to add a bit more. Actually, I've been using Firestorm in VMware for a long time without any issues. However, in versions newer than 6.5.6.66221, I started to get the same error that I mentioned. But Firestorm is based on the SL Viewer source code. I don't think the issue is with Firestorm itself. That's why I'm writing here.
