[BUG-234391] Allow Private Regions to be Hidden from the Public Map API #11329

How would you like the feature to work?

The checkbox that allows a region to be hidden from search should apply to preventing the region from being accessed through the public map API, OR an additional checkbox should be added to the Region/Estate panel to allow the region to be hidden from the public map API.

Why is this feature important to you? How would it benefit the community?

Presently Linden Labs allows regions to be hidden from search so they are not easily located, a feature that helps in preventing griefing and intrusions by avatars not involved in the communities surrounding these sims. This is being bypassed by many popular mapping sites like https://www.bonniebots.com , who provide links to Regions and allow them to be searched with no consent by the owner (and outright refusal to remove sims from their list when asked). For some regions this is a non issue, they are lightly managed and are aimed at attracting as many Residents as possible. For others, like my region, and some regions owned by friends of mine, we prefer to keep our regions easily accessible so members of our community just joining SL can easily access them, but private so that non-members of our community do not intrude, and griefers do not ruin the experience for those within our community. With the proliferation of mapping sites such as bonniebots, it makes our jobs harder and more troublesome in managing our communities, and also fills our region banlists unnecessarily, and, with only 750 avatars allowed on that list, at some point we will have to start removing old griefer and bot bans to add new ones, potentially re-opening us to intrusion from old offenders.

Hi there,

Have you considered turning on the Must Not Be a Scripted Agent flag? https://lindenlab.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/31000169561-scripted-agent-estate-access-faq#How-do-I-set-the-deny_bots-flag-using-the-Region/Estate-window Is there a reason that feature wouldn't solve the problem you outlined? Please add your response as a comment to this Jira issue and then click the Info Provided button.
