[BUG-37770] I want to be able to close out group chat tabs without muting the conversation. #12080

How would you like the feature to work?

Currently when you get a new group message, a new chat tab is opened. If you close out of this tab, further messages from that group will be muted for the remainder of that session. There is currently no way to close the tab but still receive further new messages from that group.

Why is this feature important to you? How would it benefit the community?

Currently closing out a IM tab and a Group IM tab are two different actions. Silencing a group should be a separate action done intentionally.

I believe BUG-10517 was imported in the end as a feature request to add this new feature.

Just to note - Firestorm viewer has this feature.

There are 2 ways to close a group chat on Firestorm.

1) The standard way by closing the group chat window with the X. Closing a group chat in this way will mute the group chat for the rest of the session or until you manually open the group chat again. This behaves the same way as closing a group chat on the LL viewer.

2) Closing the group chat window using the snooze button "ZZ". http://prnt.sc/cdqm4f

When you close a group chat using snooze, the group chat will remain muted until the "snooze duration" time has expired. After the snooze duration time has expired, the first post made to the group chat will auto-open the group chat window.

We have preference options for the default group snooze duration time and also the ability to set group chat snooze duration individually per group. http://prnt.sc/cdqnfu

If "Set group chat duration individually per group" is enabled, then snoozing a group chat will allow the user to enter the custom time to snooze this particular groups chat: http://prnt.sc/cdqnyu

The only problem with Firestorm group snooze is that there is no option to start the snooze from the time of the last chat.

This means if group chat has gone silent for 30 minutes or more and you snooze the group for 15 minutes, you will miss anything said during that time.

If you had the option to snooze starting at the time of the last chat, you would not miss new conversations/topics and you would still have the ability to snooze active conversations with the full snooze time.

If LL considers this feature, I ask they also consider this option as well especially since it is a big problem in Firestorm and no one seems to want to address it.

Hmm for that case, why don't you just snooze that groups chat for a couple of seconds (when "Set group chat duration individually per group" is enabled)? The chat has already been quiet for 30 minutes and I'm guessing you just want to close that groups chat tab but wish the groups chat to auto-open as soon as a fresh post is made?

As far as I can tell that would address the problem you filed at http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-15611

The problem with that is if I wanted to snooze an active group chat, one where people are actually chatting at the moment, it would immediately open again.

What I filed then was for the same behavior I'm requesting here now.

This request causes so much discussion every time we hit it in triage, that we are leaving it open to further ferment ... for the 4th triage in a row. What this really means is that there's plenty of interest on our side, but little consensus on the "right way" (tm) to do it.

In my own opinion this seems the most intuitive:

1.) Closing out a group tab does nothing but close it out - if another message comes in, the tab will reappear. 2.) A new button on the group "mute group for session" - pressing this will close out the tab AND mute it for the session, which is the current behavoir.
