[BUG-40603] Groups with a Super Owner Role #12254

Closed sl-service-account closed 5 months ago

sl-service-account commented 7 years ago

How would you like the feature to work?

This role would work similar to how an estate manager's role would work on a sim. However, as a role, it will allow one to undo an assignment of an owner role if the owner comes up as corrupted... Consider as an over-ride for those specifically chosen owners as super owner

Why is this feature important to you? How would it benefit the community?

let's say an owner made another agent as an owner. Then let's say months or years later, it was discovered that newly assigned owner was corrupted (not good for the group... (e.g. A griefer, a liar, a TOS violator, etc) Now lets say that the other owners decided that they did not want this new person as an owner any longer. This role would allow for the owner button of the individual to be unchecked or allow for that owner to be ejected/banned. Currently, this is not possible. Please remember once an owner is an owner, they could destroy a group from within such as eject everyone in the group, change the group description, change the group profile picture, etc... They could invite others into the group and make them as owners and take over everything destroying its reputation and function.

How does one become a "super owner"? Can there be more than one "super owner" in a group? What happens if a "super owner" becomes corrupt?

Can super owners eject other super owners?

Lucia: Super owners would have to be the group creator (possibly their alts) and the ones that they would trust with their life). So, yes. There would be more than one super owner. Whirly: That is not a bad idea. Super owners being able to eject another super owner. As long as one only adds the ones that they would trust with their life, there would be no need for that. However, in case one accidentally clicks the wrong box and had chosen to ignore warnings with the box checked to ignore warnings, removing one from the role would be an excellent idea.

I think this would be turtles all the way down, shifting the very same owner pitfalls to the new role.

Are viewers being clear enough about the amount of power group owners get? If there is a practical improvement to be made, I think it would be in explanation.

Sometimes one does not show their true colors until they snap. Sometimes the power is clear. Just sometimes one does not know someone well enough until things become clear. One could know someone for years and still not really know them.
