[BUG-41182] Offlines to Email dropping randomly #12747

Open sl-service-account opened 7 years ago

sl-service-account commented 7 years ago

Steps to Reproduce

Sleeping usually :) it is because I am offline, so its occurring without anything happening on my side.

Actual Behavior

Since the implementation of Project Bento, and this started with the exact day I downloaded the beta version. Offlines to email have been dropping as in unchecked from the second life website, sometimes as much as twice a week. Noticeably it happened each update to bento beta, so on those days I triple checked and it would still happen, but I would catch it in time to not lose too much information. I cap very early on in a day, and can lose lots of important communications. I notice it because suddenly my emails stop, so am able to reassign it by rechecking the second life ims to email checkbox, but lately it has been happening more frequently, twice this week already.

I have also noticed that it is not viewer specific as I use FS and its also happening to an SL only user the same exact time as me, as we work together and we lose everything. My other accounts are randomly on or off also, which is confusing as it does not seem to hit everything.

Expected Behavior

Offlines to go to email as needed.

I think the timing with Bento was just coincidental. Can you send a test offline to yourself from an alt & when it reproduces a failure to be received in your email, give the date/time the message was sent and the name of the alt account & the location of the alt was on when the message was sent. LL can then check the server logs to see if your email provider blocked the message or whether something else went wrong.

TOOL-3128 was something I was asked to include. Also it was each and every time that it was updated and new viewer was needed to install, that is some coincidence. I cannot log in an alt and send IMs to myself, I would have to do so all day and night for days until it happens, it is not occurring just because I get sent one, i get sent hundreds and then it drops off from a few accounts. It is also not that emails are blocked the actual check box for IMs to email is unchecked when I log into the Second Life website, and has to be activated again across accounts to then work for another couple of days or week.

Ahh right. Yeah that bug isn't fixed yet. That bug is filed at BUG-11051. See Soft's comment on BUG-11051 for an explanation about why this happens, presuming the cause of your problem is the same. Which email client are you using?

it is gmail, same thing that is happening to me is happening to Winter for sure, one thing I have noticed also is that sometimes customers get confused by the gibberish hyperlink that comes back at them if I am responding by email...saying they clicked the link and nothing happened. This behaviour is so random also that it made me start thinking that perhaps somehow them clicking it is creating some stop to LL's end, I know its just another out there theory but cannot hurt to mention all the things going on in those days.

Can this issue be set back to NMI? Sassy want's to leave a comment here. She was actually told to file this ticket by TJ Linden.

My offline messages are also not being sent to my email. The "Change Offline IM Settings" on my SL dashboard on the website seemed to randomly become unchecked. After checking the box again, I would start receiving offline IMs to my email again. I just did a few tests with one of my alts, and it seems to happen when I reply to an offline message from my email. I made sure the box was checked, then sent myself a message from an alt. After I replied to the message from my email, the box became unchecked.

I lost mine overnight again, that has been twice now since speaking to Whirly. I am losing mail on this account but not all, and I have been not replying by email so as not to cause the issue, if it was in fact that, so am at a loss now.

from what I can see from emails, because I actually installed an IM sender, so I can see if I stop getting emails on the hour, that I was actually logged in when my settings reverted ? I did tp at one stage and came home to have a hud i was using fall off my screen when clicked, and when putting it back on all actions I had done only minutes before were gone. Could that tp have somehow thought it was a crash and messed things up ? I didn't get logged out, just broke
