Steps to Reproduce

searching in appearance

Actual Behavior

This new dl is better than the other 2 this week or so. But I am unable to search by name in the appearance, it freezes for a long time before coming to the items searched for.

Expected Behavior

to be taken to item in search bar

I think most bugs from before are gone. ....

Hiya Pettycoat,

You are currently using a really old viewer version, Second Life 3.7.28 (300847) Apr 13 2015 15:22:33 (Second Life Release), which is the Obsolete platforms viewer. Did you go back to this old viewer version because it doesn't reproduce the freezing in the appearance panel? On your previous issue at BUG-11244 you were using the most current viewer at that time.

If you did roll back because Second Life 3.7.28 doesn't have the freezing issue then I suspect you are suffering from BUG-40787, which could very well cause a large freeze when using the appearance panel because of the memory leak. This bug is fixed on the current Maintenance-RC viewer, which you can download here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/5.0.1.322791 Please update to this viewer and see if your problem is fixed.

Also to note: You have a Windows 7 SP1 system and you are running the viewer in XP compatibility mode - your system information shows: OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600) compatibility mode. real ver: 6.1 (Build 7601) This is likely to cause some problems too & you should disable compatibility mode. Maybe you set XP compatibility mode on purpose because you chose to use the Obsolete platform viewer for XP. Compatibility mode is not needed to run the Obsolete platforms viewer, it will just cause you extra problems.

To disable compatibility mode: Right click the desktop shortcut for the viewer -> Properties -> Compatibility tab. Make sure that "Run this program in compatibility mode for.." is unticked. Also go into the viewer install folder (default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\SecondLifeViewer) and right click SecondLifeViewer.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility tab, and make sure compatibility mode is also unticked here.

If disabling compatibility mode and updating to the Maintenance-RC viewer do not fix this problem then I suspect you have a large inventory &/or a large number of saved outfits, which can cause the viewer to freeze badly when attempting to search in the appearance panel - this bug is filed at BUG-8661 and VWR-29066.

Please comment back if disabling compatibility mode and updating to the Maint-RC viewer fixes your problem.

I have uninstalled everything for SL and installed the above. My issues are now.

  1. Can not exit with the X, nor the bottom right QUIT is not really seen nor workable.
  2. Can not click on floor an move.
  3. Lag is still there, can not change from one button to the next and it work smoothly. It is a bit like stop motion at times.
  4. Changing from MY Outfit to Wearing goes black and the cam view changes.

What happens when you click the X in the top right? Nothing happens? I'm not sure what you mean by the bottom right QUIT - there is no Quit option in the bottom right of the viewer. Can you take a screenshot showing "bottom right QUIT is not really seen" & attach the image to this JIRA issue using More Actions -> Attach files.

  1. Can not click on floor an move.

In the top menu bar of the viewer, go to Me -> Preferences -> Move & View -> Single click on land. Is ""Single click on land" set to "Move to clicked point" ? Does this fix the problem? If not, does clicking on the floor to move fail in all locations or just in a specific place? If you are trying to use single click to move by clicking on a touchable object, it may not work, this is pretty much expected behaviour.

Lag can be caused by many things & it's hard to say what's causing this problem without more information. For help in troubleshooting the poor performance (lag) problem it would be a good idea to contact Linden Lab support directly for help by submitting a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/.

How many saved outfits do you have? When you say it goes black, do you mean that the viewer freezes and goes not responding for a while?

Re the cam view changing, I wonder if that's related to BUG-40920. This bug is listed as fixed on http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/5.0.1.322791 though.

I'm unable to reproduce my cam view changing when switching from the My Outfits tab to the wearing tab on Second Life 5.0.1.322791 (Second Life Release). Can you explain in more detail how you reproduce that happening?

I so do not understand any of this, I am to the point of buying a new computer to get a better Second Life. I am so confused how to fix the issues.

However, you may want to try our new 64bit project viewer "Alex Ivy" which should give you increased performance. You may download that here: http://download.cloud.secondlife.com/Viewer_5/Second_Life_Project_Alex_Ivy_5_1_0_501863_x86_64_Setup.exe

Please note that it is a Project viewer build so will have other untested fixes and does not meet the standard of quality for release.
