[BUG-41657] client detect bug in SL Browser #13147

Open sl-service-account opened 7 years ago

sl-service-account commented 7 years ago

Steps to Reproduce

I opened detect lag it shows my client when my windows browsers are open, but when I close the windows browsers or windows tools, the client goes to red, as if not operating at all it also says I need to change the frame rate, this is upsetting, the SL browser is using 70.1 gigs in my systems, yet can not detect the fact that it is receiving lightning speed from my systems, I am not only on Ethernet but also on wifi and client in SL does not appear to be working

Actual Behavior

If you try to find out why your video graphics leave you appearing nude to others, you use detect lag

Expected Behavior

to be able to get some help so I am not walking in the nude due to slow graphic rendering due to a bug in the SL browser

Other information

Yes, if help was available in the browser I would not be on Edge browser looking for help, also the Blackhearts is the only location where the in game lag detector works correctly and the only location that helps cut down on lag. a player that has slower speed than I do, which is most of them, will experience a lot more lag than I do

Hiya CrystalBlue2U,

When you say you opened "detect lag" & you are seeing a problem with the "client" there, is it the Lag Meter you are looking at? Top menu bar of the viewer -> Advanced -> Performance Tools -> Lag Meter.

When you say the "client goes to red", is this the icon for Client turning red in the lag meter? http://image.prntscr.com/image/61cace28d6b542c2a2120a015f26ad81.png

If the lag meter client icon displays as red and you see text saying something similar to "Client frame rate below 10. Possible cause: Draw distance set too high", then this will happen if the viewer FPS drops to a low value. The Client reading is a measure of viewer side lag only, nothing to do with your connection/network or region performance.

You said that opening up viewer browser windows fixes the problem. When you take the viewer out of focus, eg by opening another window on top of the viewer window, the viewer FPS will drop drastically - that FPS drop is expected behaviour and the lag meter adjusts the Client reading accordingly. The lag meter detects when the viewer is out of focus and you will see text saying "Normal, Window in background" against Client in the lag meter and the icon will turn green.

If the viewer performance feels ok to you when you see the lag meter client icon turn red, then honestly, don't worry about it. If the viewer performance is feeling sluggish then the problem is probably going to be "render lag" caused by the scene (including your attachments & other nearby avatars) being taxing for the viewer to render. This page should help: https://community.secondlife.com/knowledgebase/english/how-to-improve-viewer-performance-r601/

If you are suffering poor client performance in the viewer, this will not cause observers to see you nude at all. If others are not rendering your avatar clothing fully then the cause could be:
