Hi Quasimofo, could it be that your friend's objects are coalesced? http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Object#Coalesced_object This would happen if she either selected a few objects and took them into her inventory, or if the objects were returned at the same time. When a coalesced object is rezzed, the objects would keep their same original offsets relative to one another, which kind of sounds like 'returned to their previous positions'.
Another idea: if the objects always move to the absolute position, no matter where you seem to drag them to rez, is that a script in the objects may be moving them immediately upon rez.

Actual Behavior
my roomate on our land at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Heroic%20Leap/214/85/23 had many of her objects, shift their positions by a large distance. when she derezzed them and tried to re rez them one at a time, they all rezzed together and returned to their previous positions, some in our homes walls and such. Shes been un able to rez them seperately ann im out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you for your time
