Heya Chelle,
You do not give the region name but it sounds very much like the region you are logging into has "caps fail" which causes, among other things, inability to load mesh, friends list stuck on "loading...", empty groups list and getting disconnected when attempting to TP to a different region.
A region restart should fix this issue. If you are unable to restart the region yourself then you should contact the region owner. If this region is on Mainland (Owned by Linden Lab) then contact Linden Lab support and they will restart the region for you: https://support.secondlife.com/contact-support/
Steps to Reproduce
I logged on. It started happening right away. Was fine around 4:30 p.m. slt, but by 7 slt when I logged back on this was happening. It started with the "loading..." as people were typing in IMs. Then I crashed and I came back with all of the above happening
Actual Behavior
No names appear in my contacts. Every name (in local or IMs) appears as "loading" though it will load old conversations from before. I am wearing a Mesh shirt/belt but only the alpha shows. SL just does not seem to be "loading" tonight. I can't TP either.
Expected Behavior
Names should load. Mesh should show. Contact list should have names. I should be able to teleport (tp).
