[BUG-7602] Severe lag #15291

Open sl-service-account opened 10 years ago

sl-service-account commented 10 years ago

Steps to Reproduce

There was no error message, however I did notice looking from the back of my avatar, that the frame rate had dropped from my typical 60fps down to 10..

Actual Behavior

I had teleported to several sims, and upon arriving there looking outward from the back side of the avatar, things were choppy, the frame rate had dropped down to 10 fps from my normal 60.. I Checked for the latest drivers to my graphics card, and those are all up to date, I cleared the cache, and that did not help, I set the graphics settings down to a lower setting and that did not help, however as i would pan around my avatar things seemed to smooth out, the frame rate shot back up to my usual, the lag was not there, and it didnt look choppy. This has happened now for two days in a row since the most recent update I received on the Sl Viewer..

I then logged in using the firestorm viewer, and I had no issues at all with lag, or the frame rate dropping so drastically like I had with the second life viewer.. I would personally rather sue the second life viewer only because I know my way around it more, but at the rate this thing is acting, I am about to go start using firestorm, and I do not like firestorm at all..

Expected Behavior

I was expecting the viewer to run like it has in previous updates, however this most recent update I have, sucks!

Heya Danga,

Can you remember which viewer version you were using before you got the update which didnt have this problem? The latest viewer update only contained a webkit fix, which shouldnt affect performance in any way.

Does this problem happen on all regions or just in one place? If it is just in one location can you give the SLURL.

Are you wearing any new attachments on your avatar which may be causing poor performance? eg) "animated mesh" attachments like kitty tails and follower pets can severely degrade FPS when in camera view.

Did you change any viewer settings which may cause poor performance? Particularly any changes made in the Advanced, develop or debug settings?

The Viewer version I was using before the update was version 3.7.18.295372 and now it is happening in all regions after a few short seconds of being there...

I don't have any attachments added to my avatar that are causing the issue, NO animated mesh, no anything.. if anything I have very few scripts attached, at last count I believe there were a total of 67 scripts attached to my avatar..

I have changed all the settings I can think of through out the viewer, even took the graphics down to the lowest setting, which seemed to work best and eliminated the lag all together..

Ok, the previous version you had was actually the HTTP Pipeline RC viewer: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers This viewer is still in RC and not released yet.

The version you are having the problems after updating to is the default release viewer: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/3.7.18.295539

If you install the HTTP RC 3.7.18.295372 viewer again, is performance back to normal? Download is here https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/3.7.18.295372

RC 3.7.18.295372 viewer is what I have currently installed after uninstalling the newest release, and it seems to be working fine..

Well, that's curious.

I just checked the HTTP RC (3.7.18.295372) and this build does not have the webkit update in it that is in the default release build that is causing you problems (3.7.18 (295539)). As far as I can see the HTTP RC has all the other code in it from the default release - it just isnt merged up with the webkit fix yet - hopefully someone else can check thats correct though.

Can you run a session on the troublesome build (the default release from https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/3.7.18.295539) and reproduce the performance problems and then after logging out, before relaunching the viewer, zip up the logs folder and attach it to this issue using More Actions -> Attach files. This page tells you where to find the logs folder: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-report-a-bug/ta-p/733545#Section_.3

Thanks!
