Heya Coolmommy,
There are two problems that people are having with the latest viewer release.
- The viewer gets stuck on "Initialising VFS..." and never gets any further.
- The viewer actually crashes just after you see "Initialising VFS..." on the screen and the viewer just closes to desktop.
If you have (1) and the viewer just sticks at "Initialising VFS", but isn't actually crashing, a manual cache clear should fix this. You didnt give your operating system so I'll give instructions for them all:
- Make sure hidden files and folders are set to show - see http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/showing_hidden_folders
- Windows XP: Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\ [USERNAME] \Local Settings\Application Data. Delete the SecondLife folder within Application Data.
- Windows Vista, 7 & 8: Browse to C:\Users\ [USERNAME] \AppData\Local. Delete the SecondLife folder within Local.
- Mac: Browse to User/Library/Caches. Delete the SecondLife folder within Caches.
- Linux: Brose to ~/.secondlife. Delete this Cache folder within secondlife.
- Launch the viewer and try to login.
If you have (2) and the viewer just closes to desktop after you see "Initialising VFS...." the you are getting hit with the bug filed at BUG-7783 and BUG-7776 So far this appears to only be affecting system with older Intel GPUs.
You will need to use an older viewer version that does not contain the benchmark changes for now. The project-Experience tools viewer has not yet been updated with the benchmark changes. If you are still having problems crashing at login, on any viewer that you can login with, please go to the top menu bar, Help -> About Second Life/viewer name, copy all your system information listed here and paste it into a comment.
