[BUG-7812] significant lag on specific second life server #15478

Closed sl-service-account closed 7 months ago

sl-service-account commented 9 years ago

Steps to Reproduce

normal activity

Actual Behavior

when in FS latest version, on my home sim (raspberry) I experience huge lag, lag to chat, lag to movement, lag to everything. This is new and recent in the last 10 days. It seems to only impact me, and only on that sim. I go to the sim next-door (prune) which is also a SL server and everything is fine, like normal. I have checked server other sims and no issues. I picked up everything on my island, scanned the Fps which shows at 45, and removed all temp rezors and still the same. If I log in with other viewers (SL or Singularity) it is a bit better but still worse than it has been ever. I have had the sim reset several times and nothing new has been introduced into the sim in the last 2 months.

Expected Behavior

not be so laggy, never has been like this before

Other information

I even reset my character to default to make sure it wasn't me, but if it was I would have the same impact everywhere else, but it ONLY happens on that sim (raspberry). please help

Could you check if another avatar is experiencing the same lag on your sim?

I have done that with several, and it seems to be just me....others have noticed a slight increase in lag, but nothing like what I get.

Heya Zayden,

Have you tested with an alt account (using the same computer) to see if the alt also has the same problem? I'm just wondering if there is a griefer object on your region (some kind of rendering lagger) that is targeted to your specific avatar. The way these objects usually work is, they hide high up in the sky when the target avatar is not on the region. When the target avatar enters the region, the object swoopes down and follows your avatar while it remains on that region. If this was the case though, other avatars standing next to you on that region would also experience the lag, but only when you are present there.

Whirly,

thank you for the suggestion, I have logged in my alt and it seems to act the same with the alt as well..slow chat, heavily increased lag and delayed responses. Whats even more strange is I can go to the sim next to mine, also a SL server, and the lag immediately goes away. I have also tried several other sims around me, as I live in Fruit islands, which is 200 sims connected and only my sim impacts me. I have contacted the sim owner with no luck but restarts that didnt do anything to fix it and picked up my entire island and scanned the region, nothing seems to fix it.

If you stand on the edge of your region at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Raspberry/166/9/22 (this is ~10m away from the border with Prune) and turn to face into your region (with Prune behind you). Is the lag present then? If you then walk over the border into Prune, for example, stand at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Prune/172/240/22 (~ 10m away from Raspberry border) and face Raspberry region, is the lag gone?

on there now and yes the lag is present 10 from prune but less than in my parcel. and completely gone when I cross over into prune. Another odd thing I noticed, when I initially log in seems ok, but gets progressively worse within a min or two

Hmm thats pretty strange! You would be pretty much rendering the exact same scene in those 2 locations, and most of that scene is water.

Do you always login at home on Raspberry? If you login to a different region, wait a minute or so and then teleport into Raspberry, does the lag still happen only in Raspberry?

If you open the Statistics window (CTRL+SHIFT+1/CMD+OPT+1 on Mac I think), what is the approximate FPS reading and ping sim reading you get when standing in Raspberry close to the border of Prune and when standing in Prune close to the border of Raspberry? Face in the same direction when taking the readings.

I went to Raspberry region (you probably know because your security orb kicked me ;)) and had a fly around the neighbouring regions too and I couldnt reproduce this.

FPS says 21.6 in the water outside my island and 12.2 in my parcel. until this started happenning, yes I only logged in at home. Since I have been logging in and out where we have a race shop because there is zero lag issues there http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Night%20Shift%20Shores/116/233/1002

My apologies , we get a lot of "campers" using it as a sandbox because it is open rez in the water. I took you off the bad list lol

My FPS standing still right now is 2.5

OMG! Whirly you are amazing! It was the Mac Yosemite update that was causing it. It was a pain in the butt to revert to Maverick, had to go to Lion then update to Maverick, but 4 hrs later...NO LAG! thank you for your time and helping me figure this out, I truly appreciate it!

Yay awesome!

For Lindens - I met with Zayden inworld & to cut a long story short, he worked out that he had updated to Yosemite just before this poor performance problem started. His region is fairly render heavy with quite a lot of alpha textures (tress and grass) and his lag did seem to be rendering lag.

He is Mac with Nvidia graphics, so I suspected he was being affected by BUG-7630, which is pretty severe for Nvidia GPUs.

Glad that worked Zayden! \o/

This appears to be a client lag issue, and is not the official client so there isn't much we can do with it.
