[BUG-8787] Advanced Lighting Model creates artificially bright terrain reflections #16368

Open sl-service-account opened 9 years ago

sl-service-account commented 9 years ago

Steps to Reproduce

This requires no action on my part to appear. It is just... everywhere. :-)

Actual Behavior

Surrounding landscape emits really bright water reflections, as though the landscape was emitting its own light. This only happens when Advanced Lighting Model option is checked. (see pics)

This same phenomenon was noticed on Le Tigre mainland sims a while back, but disappeared. Upon downloading the latest viewer this morning, I noticed that this now happens everywhere. The attached pics are from private regions (Blake Passage).

Expected Behavior

Reflections, as they appear with the Advanced Lighting Model checked, should be the same as if the ALM option was unchecked. Should be passive reflection, not bright.

Other information

I have tried this with all of my Macs (ATI, NVidia, and Intel video cards) and am not sure if this is a Mac issue or not.

Just to add - for a few server updates, this problem went away. I do not notice it on Second Life Server-based regions. I am noticing it on Le Tigre regions though.
